Mission and Purpose
Ensure Zuni youth are healthy and prepared to continue their cultural traditions. Formed from a local pediatrician’s summer camp, the project is now a nationally recognised, Zuni-led nonprofit offering year-round programs for more than 800 youth. Available to Zuni children and youth (serves 800–1,000 participants); approximately one-third of Zuni Pueblo’s 10,000 residents are under 18. Languages: English and Shiwi (Zuni).
Impact and Programming
More than 800 young people engaged through camps, after-school programs and gardens. The organisation reports improved physical activity levels and cultural engagement; specific retention statistics are not public. Received national attention for its Zuni Elder and Youth Heritage Garden and was cited by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation as a model for Indigenous youth wellness.
