The Nereidonian Civilization is our platypus. It looks a little strange, it doesn't fit the usual categories, and that's exactly the point. Nereidonia is a fictional construct designed to spark curiosity about the real cultures that shaped our world.
If you're intrigued by the duck-bill, we'll point you to the ducks. If the webbed feet catch your imagination, we'll send you to the otters. What begins as play leads, inevitably, to real history.

We create stories, artifacts, and narratives inside Nereidonia — the civilization, its legal codes, its maritime engineering, its mythology and cultural practices.

Nereidonia is explicitly fictional. There is no attempt to blur into pseudo-history or deceive. The thought experiment only has value if the artifice is clear.
