Everything you need to know about what Nereidonia is, how the Foundation works, and who benefits from the Heritage Initiative.

About Nereidonia

What is Nereidonia?

Nereidonia is a meticulously developed alternate-history maritime civilization spanning from 67 BCE to the modern era. It is presented through scholarly essays, technical manuals, fiction anthologies, legal treatises, and cultural artifacts as though it were a real historical culture.

It is not a prank. It is not a conspiracy. It is not a hidden civilization waiting to be rediscovered.

It is a serious worldbuilding project that explores governance, intercultural exchange, maritime engineering, law, and myth through a fully realized fictional society.

Is Nereidonia real?

No — it is explicitly fictional.

The Nereidonia Foundation presents the civilization in a museum-educational tone to explore what could have been and why it might have been ideal in certain respects. The project is fully transparent about its fictional nature. There is no attempt to blur into pseudo-history or deceive.

"If someone leaves wondering, 'Why didn't we build our institutions more like that?' — then we have done our job."
Is this political?

It is philosophical.

Nereidonia examines governance, justice, engineering, intercultural exchange, and moral responsibility. It does not endorse modern political parties or movements. It does, however, ask uncomfortable structural questions about how societies are designed.

If that feels political, that says more about the world than about the project.

About the Foundation & Press

What is the Nereidonia Foundation?

The Nereidonia Foundation (NF) is the educational and curatorial umbrella of the project. Its purpose is to:

  • Present Nereidonian texts and research in a museum-style framework
  • Provide historical, legal, engineering, and cultural context for the canon
  • Serve as the central hub for understanding the civilization
  • Make clear what is fictional and what is real-world inspiration

It functions as the interpretive layer. If Nereidonia is the civilization, the Foundation is the museum explaining it.

What is Nereidonia Press?

Nereidonia Press (NP) is the publishing arm of the project. It produces:

  • Anthology novels set within the Nereidonian canon
  • Scholarly-style treatises and historical analyses
  • Technical manuals on Nereidonian engineering and law
  • Narrative investigations and in-universe documents

These works are designed to stand on their own as compelling literature while contributing to the broader canon. The Press generates revenue that supports the Nereidonia Heritage Initiative — in other words, the fiction funds something real.

About the Heritage Initiative

What is the Nereidonia Heritage Initiative (NHI)?

The Nereidonia Heritage Initiative is the philanthropic engine of the project. A portion of proceeds from Nereidonia Press publications is donated to real-world Indigenous, maritime, and cultural heritage organizations whose histories and traditions inspired elements of the Nereidonian canon.

  • Each narrative is paired with a real-world beneficiary before release
  • Disbursements follow a sliding scale of 40%–60% of gross proceeds
  • The Initiative publishes impact statements and documentation to maintain full transparency
Who benefits from this?

Three groups:

  • Readers and scholars who engage with a deeply developed alternate civilization and the real-world context it illuminates
  • Real-world cultural and heritage institutions that receive direct donations through the NHI
  • The broader conversation about how societies design law, technology, and identity
"If the loop works correctly, curiosity about the fiction leads to financial support for real communities. That is intentional."
